Hello (Your Den Name) Families,
Before earning any of the other Rank Badges, a Cub Scout must earn the Bobcat Badge. The requirements are:
1. Learn and say the Scout Oath, with help if needed.
2. Learn and say the Scout Law, with help if needed.
3. Show the Cub Scout sign. Tell what it means.
4. Show the Cub Scout handshake. Tell what it means.
5. Say the Cub Scout motto. Tell what it means.
6. Show the Cub Scout salute. Tell what it means.
7. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent's Guide
Examples of "help if needed" would be sounding out the word if they get stuck or if they miss a part, asking them what part they missed and having them remember and identify the missed part correctly.
Each of you know the best way for your Scout to learn, memorize and understand things. I ask that you work on the Bobcat requirements at home. I have attached several documents for you to reference. We will begin each Den Meeting with the Scout Oath and end each meeting with the Scout Law which can help as well.
When you and your Scout feel ready to test on any or all of the 6 requirements simply let me know and we will review quickly before or after the following Den Meeting. Efforts should be made to achieve the Bobcat Badge as soon as possible, but it is more important that your Scout truly knows and understands the Scout Oath, Law, Motto, Sign, Handshake and Salute.
As always, let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Yours in Scouting,
